2009 Event Report - Boot, Wasdale
by John Slater - Planner and Organiser
Well done to everybody who completed their courses, over some challenging terrain and with some real November weather.
2009 Results and Splits
Thanks to everybody who supported the event once more - it seems we’re attracting a very dedicated following judging by the familiar names who’ve appeared for each of the last three years. Also my thanks go to Pete and Barbara Nelson who have spent many hundreds of hours updating our existing maps of Blea and Stony Tarn and creating whole new sections of map especially for this event, as well as for their invaluable help on the day.
Congratulations to Steve Birkinshaw for making it three wins in a row. Todays was undoubtedly the toughest of the three for three reasons: physicality of the terrain, technicality of the terrain and some proper winter-like weather. So well done to all those who successfully completed their course and if you didn’t, well commiserations and at least you know it was a tough one!
Next year will almost certainly see the event move to a different and new area, I’ll almost certainly make it pre-entry only to avoid the extra stress on the organising team on the day in supporting the marking up of maps and thereby remove a couple of minor problems we had today. November 14th 2010 is the date for your diary but in the mean time check out the WCOC site to find out what else the 'British Orienteering Club of the Year’ has for your enjoyment.
